Halifa Sallah, leader of Gambia's main opposition National Alliance for Democracy and Development party, was arrested yesterday, police sources said. "Halifa was picked up from his house and is currently detained at Yundum Police Station, 35km from the capital, Banjul," a source said.
A cargo ship sank in the Red Sea yesterday, killing at least three of the 26 crew, sources at Egypt's port authority said. Rescuers, some using helicopters, were searching for 17 sailors after saving six of the crew.
