A Washington County proposal to cancel its funding for 4-H, an iconic youth development program, drew fire Tuesday from a crowd of supporters who told commissioners that killing the program would in turn ruin the county fair.
"I understand tough choices," said Steve Anderson, a Forest Lake business owner and executive board member of the Washington County Agricultural Society, who argued that 4-H exhibitors account for more than half of the fair's attractions and attendees. "Without 4-H there is no fair."
