Shortly before Thanksgiving last year, the great bow of the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) was churning through turbulent waters, and steaming toward certain disaster.
"Excellent," many on the crew and embarked Marines thought. "Real work."
Meanwhile, a somewhat exhausted supply petty officer, SK2 Ryan Bessemer, sat quietly in his office back at FISC Yokosuka Detachment Singapore, hoping to see his handiwork on the network news.
