Article: Life science researchers want simpler solutions: life science instruments are expected to provide more knowledge faster and at a lower cost.(Special Feature)(Company overview)

Information transparency, electronic data management, and genome-based drug profiling have generated excitement in the life sciences sector. But pharmaceutical and biotech companies grappling with a tough economic environment and increasing competition are now forced to cut costs and downsize while realigning their R&D to produce less raw data and more knowledge.

Spending cuts have resulted in fewer instruments on the lab floor and a greater need for researchers to share equipment. "This means multi-user simplicity and flexibility is required," says Nance Hall, VP/GM of PerkinElmer's Automation and Detection Solutions.
