Somewhere in the welter of compact refrigeration available at retail there's money to be made. After all, these products average the shortest life cycles of any major appliances. And consumers frequently have spent a bit more for larger capacity or other step-up features.
The trend is far more pronounced in the premium segment, described as growing and profitable. It's in the crowded field seeking mass volume, where unit sales are nearly flat and margins aren't much better.
A 1996 study for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers found compact refrigerators were in 5.8 percent of homes, and access to multiple units in 3.1 percent. Ownership was highest ...
