Article: Fred Meyer Agrees to Acquire Fox Jewelry

PORTLAND, Ore., June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Fred Meyer, Inc. (NYSE: FMY) and Fox Jewelry Company announced today that an agreement has been signed for Fred Meyer to acquire the assets of all 44 Fox Jewelry stores located in malls in six states, strengthening Fred Meyer's position as the fourth largest fine jewelry chain in the country.

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of August 1997 and will be done through a wholly owned jewelry subsidiary of Fred Meyer, Inc. called Fred Meyer Jewelers, Inc.

More than half of the Fox stores are located in Michigan and Wisconsin malls. The others are located in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio. ...
