Jun. 25--In a deal that will extend its growing empire to the suburbs south of Boston, the parent company of Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women's hospitals said yesterday it would merge with South Shore Hospital.
The combination is the latest maneuver by Partners HealthCare System Inc., which also includes North Shore Medical Center, to solidify its powerhouse status in Eastern Massachusetts.
