Most Americans consider their pets to be a member of the family--some even pamper them as much (or more) than their own children--which means animal lovers shell out big bucks on their pets. According to the American Pet Products Association, an estimated $43.4 billion was spent on pets in 2008, up from $41.2 billion in 2007.
