Article: Green tea, Vitamins D and B, milk thistle, cranberries, and turmeric top list of ingredients ranked; call for methods issued.(For Your Information)

In a meeting on January 22 of the Ingredient Ranking Subgroup (IRS), some two dozen dietary supplement experts from trade, government, and industry came together to prioritize dietary supplement ingredients for which validated methods are urgently needed. Among the highest of those ranked were green tea, Vitamin D, Vitamin B (B6 and B12), milk thistle, anthocyanins (cranberries), and turmeric (see sidebar for the top 20 priority ingredients). As part of a new contract with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), AOAC is now issuing an urgent call for methods for these ingredients, with the exception of green tea.
