The collapse of the Eaton's department store chain has generated a lot of media attention, but very little of it has focussed on the seamier side of the company's operations. We have all heard several times over about the store that Timothy built, how people used to meet at his statue, how he shortened workers' hours and revolutionized retailing with his no haggling, money refunded if goods unsatisfactory policies.
Far less attention has been paid to the firm's long history of union-busting, the outbreaks of anti-Semitism, or the family's public homages to Mussolinil - which is a shame; most of this information is quite easy to put your hands on.
