Posting the largest dollar increase over any other toy category, dolls were honored in 1996 as the leading ladies of toy aisles. The category jumped from $1.9 billion in manufacturer shipments in 1995, to more than $2 billion last year, representing a rise of nearly 9 percent.

Led by the first lady of fashion herself, Miss Barbie in her many manifestations, the category of Fashion Dolls/Clothes/Accessories posted the most substantial increase.
