Two years ago, Tea International carried news of tea cultivation in Tuscany, Italy. Experiments at Sant' Andrea di Compito continue as an offshoot of camellia growing, and, as Georgina Gordon-Ham reports, quality and production are slowly improving.
Guido Cattolica, a botanist collaborating with the Lucca (Tuscany) Botanical Garden, and reviver of a family interest in camellias, is delighted that "our tea plants are becoming more mature. Last year, we had a bigger crop compared to the previous year. 35 kilos were collected from our experimental plot in May, and we're producing mainly green tea.
