Stimulus to aid crime-fighting efforts

Michigan is eligible for about $67 million in federal stimulus money to boost law enforcement efforts targeting drug-related and violent crime, the Associated Press reported Friday.

The state said nearly $26 million of the cash will go directly to local governments. Other money will be distributed through the state to help decrease the backlog at crime labs and add resources to drug, mental health and domestic violence courts.

Detroit would get more than $10.4 million, Pontiac would receive more than $500,000 and cities including Dearborn, Southfield and Warren would get more than $250,000.
