IN MAY 2006, Sir Anthony O'Reilly marked his 70th birthday with a four-day party for his family and 150 'close personal friends' in the five-star Hassler Hotel, at the top of the world-famous Spanish Steps in Rome.

Highlight of the festivities, estimated to have cost E1million, was a gala dinner on the rooftop terrace.

Sir Anthony's three sons, Gavin, Tony Jnr and Cameron, made a dramatic appearance dressed in Roman togas to pay homage to their father in front of a select gathering that included former Canadian premier Brian Mulroney and his wife, Mila, as well as Hollywood star Sean Connery and his wife, Micheline.
