Repsol/YPF is the biggest foreign oil producer in Ecuador. Other important foreign oil producers include Andes Petroleum, a group led by China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) which acquired assets in September 2005 formerly owned by EnCana; Perenco; and Agip (of the ENI group of Italy). While Ecuador's crude oil production increased 31% from 2001 to 2005, PetroEcuador's share of the output declined from 56% to 37% during that same period. But PetroEcuador's share of the country's production jumped to 46% in 2006 after the company's take-over of Oxy's assets.
