SAN FRANCISCO - Single-family housing permits are up 20% over 1995, signaling a recovery in the San Francisco Bay area. Local builders and market analysts point to high-tech job growth in the Silicon Valley.
"This is still a breeding ground for a lot of start-up companies, and they're the ones that are creating the most jobs," says Steve Delva, president of Greystone Homes' South Bay division in Milpitas.
According to U.S. Housing Markets, employment in the Bay area grew 2% between September 1995 and September 1996, with 60,200 new jobs added.
