Real men die. That doesn't mean we have to like it.
We have to accept it. But we don't have to like it.
The passing of Jimmy Stewart and Robert Mitchum last week was, for those of us who love the masculine glory of Old Hollywood, more than the deaths of two older actors. It was a sad reminder of how much we once had and how little we have left.
These men were great actors, but they were so much more. They were representatives of another time. They were the last of their breed. They leave us stranded with a different breed entirely.
With few exceptions _ they call Tom Hanks the modern Jimmy Stewart, but there aren't many like ...
