The general trout season in Oregon doesn't open for another two months. But anglers need not wait until April 25 to put a mess of trout in their frying pans.
The state Department of Fish and Wildlife already begun its 2009 trout stocking program, focusing on waters that remain open year-round.
On Monday, for example, the ponds and canoe canal in Eugene's Alton Baker Park were stocked with about 1,900 hatchery rainbow trout.
Cottage Grove Pond and Reservoir and Junction City Pond are also due for trout plants this week.
