Jul. 7--One of the nation's largest wood products companies is negotiating to buy the idle CertainTeed cement pipe-making facility near Riverside in a consolidation that could bring more than 200 manufacturing and warehouse jobs to the city.
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Universal Forest Products Inc. has been negotiating with CertainTeed for nearly a year to buy the former pipe factory at 2100 Avalon St., according to Universal officials and real estate brokers familiar with the talks.
