BETHLEHEM -- Two Bethlehem High School track and field runners found themselves in a race of a different sort Monday afternoon, when a sudden allergy attack during practice caused a girl to go into anaphylactic shock.
Now, 15-year-old Emelia O'Neill is credited with possibly helping to save the life of her friend and fellow teammate Kim Newell, who inexplicably suffered the attack during an afterschool run.
As Kim felt her tongue swell, Emelia had her sit down and immediately flagged down a car to call for help. As Kim's arms and legs also began to swell, Emelia helped remove rings from her fingers to avoid cutting off circulation.
