INTRODUCTION
Microsomal glutathione transferase 1 (MGST1) is a representative of the superfamily of membrane proteins, which are termed membrane-associated proteins in eicosanoid and glutathione metabolism (MAPEG). The different MAPEG members display distinct or overlapping physiological functions, including reduction of lipid hydroperoxides (glutathione peroxidase), detoxication of reactive electrophiles (glutathione transferase), and production of leukotrienes and prostaglandin E (Schmidt-Krey et al., 2000).
