INTRODUCTION
Glucose is a very important energy source for mammals. Sodium dependent glucose transporter-1 (SGLT-1) is a carrier protein encoded by the solute carrier family 5 member 1 (SLC5A1) gene. SGLT-1 is a high affinity transporter for glucose uptake in the gastrointestinal tract of many species (Ferraris 2001; Drozdowski and Thomson, 2006).
