The military's new global command and control system is now fully in place after the Pentagon last week shut down the system that has for decades been used for top secret operations, according to defense officials.

On June 30 the Defense Information Systems Agency and the Joint Chiefs of Staff pulled the plug on the Worldwide Military Command and Control System's (WWMCCS) Top Secret Support System, the last remnant of information network developed in the 1970s.

In its place, the Pentagon has declared the Global Command and Control System-T as the "joint command and control system of record for top secret operations," according to a statement.
