Taoiseach won't rule out early vote on Lisbon Treaty
Taoiseach Brian Cowen yesterday left the door open for the Government to hold the second Lisbon Treaty referendum in the summer, rather than the autumn.
Mr Cowen did not rule out an early referendum in June, on the same day as the European elections, as the Government continues to negotiate the legally binding guarantees for Ireland to be attached to the treaty.
Late autumn is still regarded as the most likely date, although the Government denies it has confirmed this to its EU counterparts.
