Eastern Market Corp. last week made public its economic development and capital improvement plans for the market district.

The cost has increased to $50 million from original projections of $30 million to accommodate the expansion of a market hall concept and the addition of the growers' terminal and dock.

So far, the nonprofit market operator has raised $11 million, said President Dan Carmody.

Eastern Market Corp. intends to put finishing touches on the plans before submitting them to its board and the city of Detroit, which owns the market land, by May for final approval, he said.
