Jul. 18--Thomson Consumer Electronics in September plans to wade into the so-far tepid waters of television-based Web surfing.
The RCA Network Computer will be the first to challenge Sony and Philips Electronics' WebTV Network for a spot in the 60 million homes that have televisions but not personal computers.
Thomson on Thursday unveiled pre-production versions of the RCA NC, which are expected to hit stores around Labor Day, with list prices of $299 and $349. The base RCA model costs about $50 more than WebTV's entry-level models.
