FROM COMPANIES WITH EUROPEAN ROOTS STRETCHING BACK CENTURIES TO MOM-AND-POP START-UPS ESTABLISHED IN GARAGES, gourmet food manufacturers large and small descended on San Francisco's Moscone Center in January for the 34th Winter Fancy Food Show. One of the largest West Coast Fancy Food Shows yet, the convention filled 50 aisles in two halls. An estimated 16,000 buyers browsed the halls, and when closing time came at 5 o'clock, it seemed no one wanted to leave.
