HAYES - Ute Krust Grabenstetter died March 18, 2009, in her home. Ute was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, July 29, 1941, to the late Franz and Elisabeth Schliefer Krust. She was their only child. Ute was educated in Germany as a bookkeeper and was fluent in French and English. After school, she was employed as a bookkeeper by the Eugen Von Steffelin Company, Karlsruhe. She met her husband while he was stationed in Germany. They were married in 1961 and moved to the United States with their son in 1963. In 1976, they settled in Gloucester, Va., where she worked as a bookkeeper for Lou Smith and Farm Fresh supermarket retiring after 20 years. Customers hearing her German accent ...
