CDR Philip A. Murphy-Sweet, 42, died April 7, 2007, as a result of enemy action in the vicinity of Baghdad, Iraq. He was in Iraq on a six-month assignment from the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) located on the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Assigned to NAVICP in December of 2004, he served as the Director of Maritime Weapons Systems in the NAVICP Contracting Department. Later, he volunteered to serve in Iraq and arrived there in November of 2006, where he was a Contracting Officer in support of coalition troops.
