A HUSBAND standing trial for murder told gardai he wanted to make his 'smuglooking' wife suffer after she threatened divorce, a court heard yesterday.

In a statement read to the court by prosecuting counsel Isobel Kennedy BL, David Bourke, 49, admitted to stabbing his wife, Jean Gilbert, in front of their three children in an attack fuelled by jealousy.

Throughout the reading, Mr Bourke shook his head repeatedly and wiped tears from his eyes.

In the statement, Mr Bourke, who is pleading not guilty to murder, is said to have told gardai he lost his head when he stabbed Miss Gilbert despite pleas from his children ...
