NEW YORK -- Demographics are making home health care a growth category for many mass market retailers, particularly those with pharmacy operations.
The main growth driver, of course, is the aging of the baby boomers, who by some estimates are turning 60 at a rate of 8,000 per day. According to one study from 2002, more than 18% of Americans age 65 or older require some type of special equipment to manage a health condition. Given the aging of the population, that percentage is bound to grow.
