NEW YORK -- The number of older Americans is expanding steadily, and the trend is reflected in the sales growth of adult incontinence products.

According to Information Resources Inc. (IRI), category sales increased 4.4% during the 52 weeks ended December 28, 2008, to $660.8 million (figures represent sales through food, drug and discount outlets excluding Wal-Mart Stores Inc.).

The category leader continues to be Kimberly-Clark Corp.'s Depend brand, which claims nearly 32% of dollar sales and grew at a slightly faster pace than the category itself last year.
