Although it has never had a military, Iceland is seeking a larger role in NATO affairs and taking an increasing interest in the alliance's expanding size and role, according to the chairman of the Icelandic Parliament's foreign affairs committee.
"We have gradually become more active," Geir Haarde, who also serves as chairman of the majority Independence Party, told Defense Daily in an interview yesterday. "We would like to continue to develop in this direction."
