HYGIENE standards in the NHS came under renewed scrutiny last night as an MP revealed mouse droppings have been found in a hospital operating theatre.
Photographs sent to Michael Fabricant, Conservative MP for Lichfield, also show bloodsmeared wards at an unnamed hospital in the West Midlands.
Mr Fabricant said he was shocked that his informants - a surgeon and another hospital worker - were too frightened to publicly blow the whistle on standards.
