Water, always a big issue for most of California and Washington's vine-yards, is becoming even more critical.
This year, California has had a very dry winter and seems headed for drought. "We're looking into the year with the driest January in memory," says Greg Fowler, the senior vice president of Constellation Wineries and Vineyards. Long term, continuing pressure on water supplies from cities, wildlife and agriculture suggests things will only get worse, and there are many signs that global climate change could disrupt historic precipitation patterns, too.
