I WAS headed for open country in Australia's wild North West. It's known as the last frontier - one of the world's few unspoiled wilderness spaces.
The Kimberley is 423 000km2 of outback inhabited by 30 000 people and one million cows on stations the size of small countries. Spreading out a large map on my flight from Perth to Broome, I realised the region is only one part of Western Australia that is the same size as Western Europe. In Australia things simply get bigger.
