Making things fuzzy may sound like a recipe for disaster, yet fuzzy logic is now proving its value in an ever growing number of chemical industries
Absolute clarity of expression is not attainable in the sciences. The fundamental reason for this is that the sciences make use of language and language is notoriously imprecise. Even after making their statements as precise as possible, scientists still run up against the problem that science deals in concepts. Concepts are portmanteau ideas that embrace all sorts of differing and even conflicting notions.[1] Think, for example, of the concept of the particle and all of the many images this conjures up.
