NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--S&P CreditWire 8/4/97--Standard & Poor's today has assigned its single-'B'-plus corporate credit rating to Burke Industries Inc.

Burke's $100 million senior unsecured notes due 2007, to be issued in connection with a planned recapitalization, also have been assigned a single-'B'-plus rating.

The ratings outlook is stable.

The ratings reflect Burke's below-average business risk profile as a modest-sized manufacturer of engineered silicone, rubber, and vinyl-based products, and an aggressive financial risk profile.
