Managers at Esco Turbine Technologies-Syracuse said Thursday that declining global customer demand and the ongoing economic downturn has forced them to trim a fraction of their work force.
Thirty-two of the approximately 400 employees at the Chittenango plant were laid off this week, said Jeff Nguyen, site manager. Twenty-six worked in manufacturing and six were office employees.
Seniority and skills were factored into the decision as to whom got laid off. Nguyen said no further staff cuts are anticipated.
"It's a very difficult time for us," Nguyen said at the Genesee Street factory Thursday morning. ...
