A Black man from Arlington, VA, won $6.8 million in the state lottery but instead was given a slap on the shoulder and a $1 ticket at the delicatessen where he bought the tickets.
For more than three years, Ray Bernard "had played the same sets of numbers from the same three play slips." He knew the numbers by heart.
However, it wasn't until days later when Bernard returned to the Royal Lee Bar and Grill to purchase more tickets did he become suspicious.
He noticed a banner on a wall proclaiming that the $6.8 million ticket had been purchased there, and no one had yet come forward to claim the lottery jackpot.
