Efforts to exploit the 35 Tcf of natural gas on Alaska's North Slope have received a measurable boost recently from the state government, where Gov. Tony Knowles and members of the legislature have taken up the cause of exploiting the vast treasure trove of gaseous hydrocarbons.
State officials are working on a fiscal regime and other incentives that would motivate the primary gas owners, Exxon Co. USA, Arco Alaska Inc. and BP Exploration Alaska, to work with Yukon Pacific Corp. (YPC) on a liquefied nat- ural gas (LNG) project.
