Aug. 20--While traveling through India, Nepal and Thailand a few years ago, Dennis Toms realized that many people in those countries live without electricity, relying on batteries to power radios and other electric devices.
So the longtime Boulder resident invented a battery that can be recharged using solar energy. The invention, called a light-rechargable battery, has made it to the semi-finals of a nationwide contest for new, innovative consumer products.
