Aug. 20--One of the nation's largest Swiss cheese makers plans to buy the Old Wisconsin Cheese plant in Platteville, a Swiss Valley Farms Co. spokesman said Tuesday.

Carl E. Zurborg, chief executive officer of Swiss Valley, based in Davenport, Iowa, said it would make the purchase to expand its product line and increase distribution. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Old Wisconsin Cheese, which is owned by Carl Buddig & Co., employs 30 full-time workers. No jobs are expected to be lost, said Donald Brick, vice president of manufacturing for Swiss Valley.
