Madison County leaders and law enforcement officials are applauding the state's decision to keep Camp Georgetown in business.
The rural prison camp at the southern edge of Madison County was a target of Gov. David Paterson's proposed budget cuts earlier this year, which included a plan to shutter the state's four minimum-security facilities in hopes of saving $10.4 million next year and $33.5 million a year in the future.
But budget plans under review by state lawmakers include closing Camp Pharsalia, near Norwich in Chenango County, Camp McGregor in Saratoga County and Camp Gabriels in Franklin County, while ...
