Getting broadheads to fly well on high-speed arrows can be a problem. If only someone would invent a broadhead that flies like a field point but cuts a lethal hole. Well, surprise. Now someone has come up with an open-on-impact, or expanding, broadhead. The idea isn't really new, but with the growing popularity of light, ultrafast arrows, it's catching on.
Given the advantages of expanding heads, using them would seem to be a no-brainer. Yet these heads have become one of archery's most controversial issues. Depending upon who you talk to, expanding broadheads are either the salvation of bowhunting or works of the devil.
