Article: Paging Industry Posts Surprising Growth, Says Strategis Group Study

WASHINGTON, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Paging carriers added 8.6 million net new subscribers in 1996, topping the record growth of 1995. The Strategis Group's latest research report, The State of the U.S. Paging Industry: 1997, found that the total customer base expanded by 25% to reach 43.1 million units in service by the end of 1996.

"Paging is a cost effective, reliable means of communication," said Elliott Hamilton, Vice President of North American Telecommunications for The Strategis Group. "While we expect advanced messaging to begin to drive growth over the next few years, simple numeric paging remains an enormously popular service."
