Goodyear plant nets Kan. funds

TOPEKA, Kan.The Kansas Department of Commerce has agreed to provide training incentives to Goodyear worth $14.2 million that will allow Goodyear to consider investing up to $250 million at its Topeka truck and OTR tire plant and retain up to 1,400 employees for 10 years.

Under the incentives program, the state can issue bonds and recoup the costs from revenue generated by the company's state payroll tax.

The announcement came after Goodyear petitioned the Kansas legislature for financial incentives. The agreement eliminates the need for further legislative action.
