Every year, the end of June brings jazz-festival season to New York City, and along with the volatile mix of hypercondensed time frames and musical outpourings comes the sniping that keeps the small cultural village called the jazz community such a happily fractious place. This year brought even more of the same.
The JVC Jazz Festival (ex-Newport, ex-Kool) is celebrating its twenty-fifth year in the Apple, where it has been anchored by big-ticket stars in big uptown halls like Carnegie and Avery Fisher.
