NEW YORK - Cable News Network has turned to a veteran broadcast-news producer, who promised a continued commitment to breaking news, to head up its domestic flagship and to jumpstart its sagging ratings. Rick Kaplan, who has won 34 Emmys as a producer for ABC News and CBS News, last week was named to the newly created position of president of CNN/USA. Kaplan will report to Tom Johnson, CNN News Group chairman and CEO.
"We want to ensure that our flagship, CNN, remains the leading news channel," Johnson said in introducing Kaplan at a press conference here that was attended by Gerald Levin, Time Warner Inc.'s chairman.
