The Czech EU Presidency is being criticised by the European Parliament and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) for the way it handles the problematic conciliation procedure on the revision of the Working Time Directive. The Czechs say they have "spared no effort in trying to bring the EU institutions to a compromise". However, the ETUC's General Secretary, John Monks, has a different take on the situation. "We have the strong impression that the current Presidency of the EU is not intent on brokering a win-win result, which would offer member states a sustainable legal framework on working time while protecting the health and safety of the workers," he said.
